OPEN PATH DETECTION

Sotec offers several models of combustible and toxic open path gas detection products from manufacturers such as Autronica, General Monitors, MSA, Honeywell, Spectrex and Detector Electronics. 

All equipment carries a third party approval (UL, FM, CSA).  Different technologies are used among the various manufacturers, but all are built around the basic concept of monitoring large areas with “open path” type of units which consist of transmitter and receiver components that project a beam over a set distance.  When the target gas is absorbed into the beam, a corresponding signal is transmitted, indicating presence of gas.

The use of open path units can greatly reduce the number of point type gas detectors used in a project.  This type of detection technology is also commonly used for protection of perimeters, and across large open areas, such as platform wellbays.
